Introduction
Tokyo Haneda airport is the biggest and the busiest airport in Japan. More than 300 flights take off and same number of  flights land on  in a day. They are more than half of Japanese domestic flights. So we can see most airliners in Japan in a day. All flights are domestic except some charter flights. Most of airliners here are wide body ones; B747, 777, 767 and A300, and narrow bodies' are miner group here. Haneda is very exciting airport for foreign visitors. The airport has three terminal buildings, Terminal One, Terminal Two and small International Terminal. Terminal One is located in west side of the airport  for JAL group, Skymark Airline and Skynet Asia Airlines. Terminal Two for ANA group and Air Do is located in east side. Two terminal buildings are connected by B2 floor corridor. It take 20 min walk between terminals.   Timetable

Where can you take Photographs?
The airport is very friendly for spotters. There are big free observation decks, face to runway 34L/16R and named 'Bird View', in the Terminal One; 'Big Bird'. It opens from 6:30am to 8:00pm. The light condition for the runway and the taxiway is good until 11:00am. Also there is big observation deck in the Terminal Two. It faces to the runway 34R/16L. So the right condition good from late morning until sunset.
The Terminal 2 will open on 1, Dec.2004. The terminal will has the good observation deck face to Runway 34R/16L.

If you want to take approach shots, Jonan-jima is good spot when RW16L is used for landing. Unfortunately the access is not so easy, no public transport from the airport.

Runway Operation
The airport has three runway; RW16R/34L, RW16L/34R, RW22/04. Check on the map. RW16R/34L and RW16L/34R are main and used usually. In the winter the north wind is dominant and in the summer south wind dominant. RW22 is used for landing when it is hard cross wind or south wind and low visibility.
Click here to get map and more information.

Spot Operation
The spots in front of terminal building are not enough. So many airliners are parked remote spot; Skymark and Hokkaido International (Air do) and JAS's MD90 are assigned on the spots near RW16L/34R.

Where can you eat, drink and buy?
Many restaurants and cafeterias are in the terminal building. If you are rich, you can find good restaurant, Japanese, Chinese and western style in the 3 to 5 floors with runway side windows. If you are not so rich, you can find self-service cafeteria or fast food in B1, 1 and 2 floor. And a self-service cafeteria is on the observation deck.
Many shops, like shopping center, are in the terminal building. So your wife or girl friend can enjoy shopping while you are spotting. And you can buy something with airline's logo and airliner models in ANA, JAL and JAS shop in 1st floor. Also you can buy any aviation books or magazines at "Fuji Books" located left side of  the way for Keikyu Haneda airport station in B1 floor. Unfortunately most of them are Japanese one. If you want to buy any food and drink to take out for outside spotting point, you can find a shop at near north end, ANA side, of B1F. And if you have any big luggage and want to leave them, you can find the coin lockers at both south and north end of B1F.

Where do
you stay?
If you want to find any hotel convenient both for spotting at Haneda and sightseeing in Tokyo, I recommend to find a hotel around Sinagawa station, 20min (JPY400) to Haneda airport by Keikyu Line train or a hotel around Hamamatsu-cho station, 25min (JPY470) to Haneda airport by Monorail train. There are many hotels, three stars class to five stars class, and you can find one suitable for your budget.
If  you want to find one near airport, Haneda Excel Tokyu Hotel (four stars, the room rate is more than US$150) is the nearest one. It is located in Haneda Terminal Two.
If you want to find one with reasonable room rate, Toyoko Inn Haneda Ootorii Honkan, Shinkan (three stars, the room rate is US$60)  of Toyoko Inn Group is the nearest one, near Ootorii station on Keikyu Line, the 3rd station and 7 min from Haneda airport. Also Toyoko Inn Kamata Higashiguchi is convienient for the airport, near Kamata station on Keikyu Line, 11 min from Haneda airport.

Do you want to buy Camera, Lens, films?
Don't think to buy a camera, lens or films in the airport. The prices are not so reasonable. Especially the price of films are double or triple of usual price in Tokyo down town. If you want to buy them, you should go to Shinjuku area, not far from Haneda. There are big discount shops, "Yodobashi Camera", "Camera no Sakuraya", "Bic Camera".  See Map

Air Shop in Tokyo down town
If you want to get any airplane model, books, magazines or air band receiver, you can buy them at "Norimono Club" near Ichigaya station. (click here to see map)
