In 1957, the band of NEC Tamagawa was established at NEC Tamagawa Plant in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan.
In 1970s, the band of NEC Tamagawa combined with NEC Fuchu and NEC Sagamihara, and formed the band of NEC, and had held "NEC Evening Concerts" at 44 places in Japan until 1986. In the concerts, the band performed some famous musical pieces ("Sound of music","My fair lady",etc.) with NIKIKAI. Then, the band gained popularity.
In 1959, the band of NEC Tamagawa participated in the preliminary of all Japan band competition first. In 1971, the band passed the preliminary, and advanced towards the final competition as the representative of Kanto area first. Until 1997, the band advanced towards the final 21 times and won two gold prizes in 1981 and in 1995.
Since 1980s, the band has been active mainly in Kawasaki-city more widely. The band holds many concerts, an annual concert in early summer, band festival in autumn, JR-Kawasaki station concert in winter, lecture concerts for elementary schools ( 3 times per year ), etc.
In 1991, for above-mentioned activities, the band of NEC Tamagawa got "Kawasaki cultural award" from Kawasaki-city.
