6. StarOffice

Notice

This document describes how to install and configure the StarOffice 5.2
" ^ " means " space " in this procedure.

Conditions are;
1) Linux : Red Hat 7.1 (Linux-2.4.2)
2) Hardware : Dell GX110
3) Store rpm package : in "/tmp" (As you like !)

1. Download "StarOffice"

Get the StarOffice rpm package from following URL to /tmp
http://www.sun.com/staroffice (Current Ver : 5.2on July 06, 2001)
I got it from a CD, "Red Hat Linux 7 Apllications Library Workstation Edition...

2. Uncompressed rpm package

$ su -
# cd /tmp
# rpm ^ -ivh ^ Staroffice5.2_01_569a19-2.i386.rpm

3. "StarOffice" Installation

$ /opt/office52/program/.soffice

Select "Standard Installation (Local) , it required 267.5 MB
Follow the installation and input home directory (Ex. /home/foo/office52)

Put your e-mail account for easy start up. Otherwaise it will be required later to set.

4. Setup

*** It is better to finish Netscape setup before start up StarOfiice ***
$ /home/foo/office52/soffice

1) Input parameters with Internet Setup wizard (Auto copy of Netscape parameters)

2) Modify of e-mail parameters
2-1) Menu -> Tools -> Options -> General... -> User Data -> E-mail
2-2) Menu -> Tools -> Options -> Internet -> mail/News -> Outgoing mail

*** Then you can read Microsoft word / excel /power point ***
