A Few Notes |
It's funny, this Internet
doodjimahickey.
A Z-grade low-minor-league part-time
techno DJ in Japan can write a fan site containing absolutely
nothing musically, and end up
being on a
list of actual Detroit techno
artists years later, even though a) that person has never technically been to Detroit other than
walking through the airport, and b) the
site in
question was Microsoft Paint Stick Figures in French
from
1997 until early 2003, when Yahoo! bought GeoShitties out and
killed the site. It was my first attempt at a Home
Page™, and as such was quite near and dear to my heart.
The rather dull techno-fan site was eventually revamped, and moved
here. The muddy, nondescript page, although incorporating then-fresh web techniques (Javascript
mouseovers in the pre-Flash era), was never finished; I spent most of my time working on the
afk-mn WebCenter
archive site detailing
my antics on the Usenet newsgroup
alt.fan.karl-malden.nose.
That site went through two incarnations: the first, a flaming page called "firestorm.",
was lost during
the unfortunate (naah, I consider it a blessing now) failure of the company I worked for in 1999. I was able to rescue the WebCenter on
floppy before the collection agency gangsters beat down the door, but the rest disappeared into the
ether.
After that, I lost the FTP password for my ISP's web account, so for the last four years
Underpass Records has sat deep in the directories of some server somewhere, getting no hits for
months on end. Dead. Cold. Dark. The tomb of the net.
Until mid-2003, when I was finally able to get
my ISP
to cough up a new password. It was when I logged in for the first time in 48 months that I also discovered
this,
a little page of RealAudio snippets made
by who is now Kid Whatever. Compare the
dark, angry beats of this collection of tracks made circa 1998
with the new, cute-attack PockyPimp™ style of the modern
YKPeate, and you'll see
how much he's changed in 4 1/2 years.
I have since moved on to other things, creating a wacky rant/anecdote site called
GOD HATES JANKS!!!1! in 2002, which is now getting more
hits than probably all of these previous little pages combined forty-seven times over. Even though that
still adds up to a grand total of 60 unique visits by human
beings per day.
So, the smoke clears, and this site was preserved long enough for me to consider it a bit of personal
net.history. This particular page is naught but link-engorged filler.
That's about all there is to this site. See you on the other ones.
