The Tsurumi International Exchange Group is a community orgnaization that has developed a broad-based international exchange program in the city of Tsurumi,Yokohama.

Under the excellent leadership of Ms.Tanaka,the group has attracted particpation of people from all parts of the world. Ms.Tanaka has 26 years of experience in community work and activities developed with her guidance include:

*Japanese language classes for foreign students
*Charity events
*Cultural events

Language classes

Classes are held weekly. The relaxed atomsphere and individual attention have been very effective in improving the students' Japanese comprehension and speaking ability.
Once a year. we go to Kamakura and Zushi for a hike.

Charity work

Bazaars are held occasionally to collect emergency funds to help foreign residents who become ill.

Cultural events in 2001
  • Hina Matsuri:
    The group held a presentation of Japan's "Doll Festival", which is held to wish for the future happiness of girls.
  • Tea party:
    Tea is brought and prepared by members of the group, and served in native costume.
  • Lectures:
    Foreign residents give lectures on the cultures of their homelands. The presentation will provide an "armchair" world tour for participants. These educational events sometimes are held.

In 2001, volunteers of the Tsurumi International Exchange Group look forword to another year of promoting strong and friendly relations with the people of the world.
