I bought this album later in 1991, so my first encounter with her was 1986 when MTM recording artist "Girls Next Door" sang two of her song "Sittin' in your stairwell" and "Baby I Want It" on their debut album, though I didn't notice it then. She was then writing songs for MTM. She sang background vocals for another MTM recording artist Holly Dunn's 2nd and 3rd albums. They are "Cornerstone" in 1987 and "Across the Lio Grande" in 1988.
Her songs were sung by many singers, and some of them hit No.1 on American country music charts. They are ; "Strong enough to bend" by Tanya Tucker in 1986 "Nothing I can do about it" by Willie Nelson in 1987 She sang background vocals on both of them.
Her time has come, and in 1990, "Beth Nielsen Chapman"
was released from Reprise Records (Warner-Pioneer in Japan).
It became a hit instantly here, and FM Yokohama (84.7MHz. now YokohamaFM)
picked it as a "Prime Cut" and played heavily.
I first heard it played at a record shop, and fascinated
instantly. It was MY "Album of the Year 1991" indeed!
Her songs were used as BGM to the TV commercial. "All I have" for Kokusai
Shoken (a stock company), "You light up my life" (Debby Boone's hit in
1977) for All Nippon Airways.
She visited Japan in 1992 and held one concert at
"On Air" Shibuya, Tokyo.
Two albums were released since then. "You hold the key" in 1993, and
"Sand and water" in 1997. The songs are as good as ever., and I hope you
will listen to them soon (if not yet).
