Although progress is being made toward a more environmentally sound socioeconomic system, which has broken away from mass production, consumption and disposal, the means of reaching the end-goal are still inadequate. The Sustainable Material Cycles Management Section is committed to working on Material Flow Analysis (MFA). This technique helps explain the actual material flows surrounding society and any associated problems. This task of the section also includes the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and other related assessment tools that clarify the type of social system and technology for sound material cycles that will reduce the environmental burden in reality. By developing case studies using the above methodologies, the section supports effective activities associated with material cycles by various sectors and/or stakeholders in society.
